9Cares Colorado Shares is the largest one-day drive in the region thanks to the thousands of people who donated food. Our 9NEWS team was out at five locations.

9NEWS also had 30 remote sites throughout Colorado. We collected non-perishable food, clothing and toys. The food will go to 125 food banks, the clothing will go to ARC and Goodwill Thrift Stores and the toys will go to the Santa Claus Shops. We also collected cash and checks made out to 9Cares Colorado Shares at each location.

As of Saturday night, the sites in the Denver metro area collected 199,000 pounds of donations. The site at Southwest Plaza collected the most: 51,250 pounds.

250,375 pounds have been counted so far, including some of the remote sites.

You can still help and donate online by visiting: http://bit.ly/P5Ea8c.

Money collected will be used to purchase food later in the year when the need is great.

Starting Nov. 1 for the entire month you can buy an empty box at King Soopers worth $5 or $10.

The Denver Santa Claus Shop is still looking for donated space for this year's Shop.

The organization is an all-volunteer nonprofit.
