In tens of thousands of homes across the state, our neighbors are struggling to make ends meet. Parents are forced to choose between buying food and paying rent, or having to feed their children instead themselves. Too many children start the day hungry, struggling to focus in the classroom and learn. And, after a lifetime of working, Colorado seniors are left to fend for themselves and face questions like: do I purchase my needed medication or food?
Hunger is a serious-and often invisible-problem in our state, with more than 800,000 Coloradans facing times when there is not enough money to buy food for themselves or their family. But it is solvable, and together, we can ensure no Coloradan goes hungry.
Consider making one of your New Year's resolutions to be a part of the solution. Take action today by joining the Hunger P.O.D. Squad, an engagement opportunity facilitated by Hunger Free Colorado, the state's leading anti-hunger advocacy organization. Members of all ages commit to at least five activities throughout the year to help eradicate hunger in their community, whether it is donating time, money or needed items to local anti-hunger organizations, attending quarterly learning sessions, contacting legislators, participating in a community or school garden, or simply engaging in conversations and educating others about the issue.
