"It's almost hard to explain. It's like that heartwarming feeling [that] some people say you get when you are in love," Amber said. "For me, I get it when I volunteer."
The GDSF is just one place where she gives from her heart to help others. She also works one-on-one with inpatients while performing odd jobs around Children's Hospital. Amber was a patient at Children's as a young girl, and now she feels it is her calling to give back in the same way other volunteers served and cared for her.
"Seeing these kids so strong and families so united. Being around that has given me so much and shown me [so much,]" Amber said. "I've learned so much from these kids being here."
She recently noticed a shortage of games and movies at the hospital's library. Her efforts to get some donations caught the attention of 9News in 2010. After the story aired, hundreds of video games and movies were donated.
Amber has also helped raise two Labrador puppies to be seeing-eye dogs.
