"I've always thought it was nice to help somebody else," Ogden said. "I was raised that way."

Donna has made blankets for family, friends and strangers for more than two decades.

The project started several years ago when the 88-year-old began making blankets for a missionary group in California.

"For me, it is a pleasure," Ogden said.

For the past four years, Donna has stitched together a career of providing fleece blankets for newborns at Denver Health Medical Center.

Donna sends a special delivery of up to 25 blankets to the hospital each week as part of Denver Health's "Newborns in Need" program. The program provides baby blankets to low-income families who need them.

"They go fast and they are gone as soon as we bring them in," Ogden said.

It is hard for Donna to pin down how many blankets she has made over the years. She guesses she has created more than a thousand. She sews in her Lakewood home six hours a day. Her family says she only takes two weeks off a year.

Donna's husband Earl says volunteering her time is just something sewn into her character.

"That's just her," Earl Ogden said. "She is always looking out for somebody before herself."

Donna has received thank you notes from all over the world for her blankets.

"It's always the same thing. Sometimes they got, 'You're our angel.' Others say, 'Keep them coming,'" Ogden said.

And that's exactly what she plans to do.

"I'll do this as long as I can and enjoy it," Ogden said.

If you know an outstanding volunteer in the community, nominate them for the 9Who Care Award on the Community Page.
