"For me, it's much easier if I do it by hand," Alice Hebb said. "The reason for that is, on the sewing machine, the fabric moves."

Time is never really an issue. In the end, Hebb says it's always worth the extra work.

"I really feel that every baby needs something to cuddle as they get to be a year or so old, and there's a time they just need something to hold, something to cuddle," Hebb said.

Hebb decided a couple of years ago when she retired that she needed a hobby. So she decided to put her skills to good use.

"I've been making fur fabric toys for 30, 40 years," she said. "So, I started making teddy bears."

It was the work of another woman that helped Hebb get the bears to the people who needed them the most.

"She brought in the first box and we all just loved them," Kelly Marsh with Castle Rock Foot and Ankle Care said.

The bears that Hebb creates go to The Family Tree Women in Crisis Center and the Foot & Ankle Clinic in Castle Rock.

"When you come across a treasure like Alice, who is so willing to give all of her time to donate and create something by hand, it's notable," Marsh said.

That is why Hebb is the March recipient of the "9Who Care" award.

"Now is the time where we really have to think about the people around us and the people who are in need," Hebb said.

If you know an outstanding volunteer, please nominate them for a "9Who Care" award.
