"It's awesome, I mean I just can't imagine not having glasses and being able to see. So helping people with just a basic thing you need is great," Susie said.
Helping people get the basics, is something Susie spends a lot of time doing. Her volunteer work takes her far from the clinic. Often times with her husband of 32 years by her side.
"I think the missions are what got me so involved in helping people, we started in Thailand and Brazil and Peru and all over South and Central America," Susie said.
Susie stays in small villages, works hours on end with the locals, and strives to leave them better off then they were.
"It's just the people you meet that have absolutely nothing are the ones that have inspired me they are so happy and grateful when we bring them glasses and vision," Susie said.
Susie says her generosity is fueled by the generosity of others.
"My friends are just great at spreading the word when we need something and that's really touches me. I mean people always want to help and I'm an outlet to help," Susie said.
In May, Susie will head back to Brazil. The glasses have already been shipped and will be waiting for her along with hundreds of those in need.
"The people that we serve are so awesome and they're so grateful and it's all awesome and it makes you come home and feel very lucky to live where we are and not live in the poverty and hardships that they go through," Susie said.
Whether working at the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless or helping a small village, Susie Berry is truly deserving of this month's 9Who Care Award.
