Shawn Patrick - 9NEWS Anchor/Reporter |
|
Picture it, a 5 year old boy in the family room of his suburban Chicago home, with papers stacked on top of a coffee table, imitating the evening news. He has no idea what the anchorman in suspenders is saying, but he's fascinated with the sound of type writers in the distance, and the bustling newsroom behind the television journalist. Fast forward a few decades and you'll find that same boyhood excitement within a passionate reporter in the KUSA newsroom.
Shawn Patrick co-anchors the number one rated Saturday and Sunday morning newscasts along with Cheryl Preheim. He joined 9News in March of 2006, and also serves as a general assignment reporter.
Shawn comes to Denver from the NBC affiliate in Shreveport, Louisiana where he was the Primary Evening Anchor and an Associated Press award winning Reporter. Living close enough to the Gulf Coast, Shawn covered several hurricanes but none with a greater impact on society than Hurricane Katrina. The storm's aftermath took him back to New Orleans and the coast for months of stories following Katrina and Hurricane Rita. His travels on assignment included the woods of East Texas after the Shuttle Columbia disaster, to a Marine Corps Recruiting Depot in San Diego, California during a decline in military recruitment totals.
Prior to Louisiana, Shawn anchored the 5 & 10pm newscasts in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where he was the station's chief political correspondent, earning reporting honors from the Associated Press.
Outside of the newsroom, he tries to convince himself he'll return to marathon shape by tackling the Rocky Mountain running trails. Three races behind him, Shawn hopes to one day strive for another 26.2 mile journey. Until then, he'll take on the altitude one breath at a time.
Miles away from his new home of Colorado, this proud Uncle devotes his undivided attention to his beautiful niece and nephews in the suburbs of Chicago.
Shawn graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism.
