Sky 9 Helicopter pilot Jimmy Negri was born and raised right here in Denver, Colorado.
He began his career in aviation as an airplane pilot in the early 80s but quickly discovered that he belonged in a helicopter. Jimmy joined the Denver Police Department in 1973 and was a patrol officer, part of the SWAT and Detective units, and finally became the police helicopter pilot after the department needed an observer in the chopper.
Jimmy volunteered to be that observer, later underwent helicopter flight training and spent 12 of his 26 years with the police department in the sky. Jimmy retired from the police force in 2001 and that same year began to fly for KUSA and 850 KOA. To this day, Jimmy has accumulated an amazing 10,000 hours of flight time!
Jimmy loves his job in Sky 9 and is proud to say that he was the pilot of the very first high definition equipped helicopter in the country. He has flown the helicopter to various places, including an amazing flight where he was able to fly Sky 9 down the Las Vegas strip.
Outside of work Jimmy enjoys spending time with his family, which includes his beautiful wife, Nancy, his lovely daughter, Jordan, and his rambunctious dog, Timber. He loves traveling to his mountain home, running, playing golf and working on his custom motorcycle that he built himself.
