Kyle Clark - 9NEWS Reporter

Kyle Clark crammed everything he owned into a rental van, hooked his pickup to the back, and made the 1,586-mile drive to Colorado in August 2007 to join 9NEWS.

Kyle grew up in a small town in Upstate New York. That's where he first got hooked on broadcasting at the age of 15, doing play-by-play for high school basketball games for a small 5,000-watt AM radio station. The lure of telling the interesting stories of everyday people led him to leave sports broadcasting for news.

Kyle's family is filled with great storytellers, probably much like your family. They are not journalists or writers, but rather teachers, carpenters, secretaries, and railroad men, all with the ability to make you laugh, cry, think or groan over a good story. Kyle is just the first in his family to try and make a living by telling stories.

"The most inspiring people I've met and written about over the years were entirely convinced they weren't 'important enough' to be on the news. People like the farmer working 16-hour days to barely get by, the woman abandoning her own flooded house, building a sandbag wall around her neighbor's, the soldier struggling to transition into life back home after war. The bad news will always be easy to come by; my job is to find, and tell you about, people doing incredible things despite tough odds."

Prior to joining 9NEWS, Kyle graduated from Ithaca College and worked as a reporter and anchor at WBNG-TV in Binghamton, New York and WHAM-TV in Rochester, New York. While working in his home state, the Associated Press recognized his reporting on events both light-hearted and serious. Kyle was honored for his live reports during a massive flood of the Susquehanna River, an investigation revealing a paroled serial rapist hiding in a monastery, and the story of a small-town where feuding gas station owners created a frenzy as they practically gave away gasoline. Kyle also received the New York State AP's top award for overall excellence in television reporting in 2004 and 2006.

Kyle's interests include tennis, hiking, photography, zymurgy, DXing AM radio at night and falling asleep on the couch watching lopsided college basketball games on TV. He hopes to one day write a story that would make the late Charles Kuralt smile.

Kyle lives in the metro area with his dog, Porter, a beagle-mix with an endearing underbite.
