9NEWS journalists make impact at NABJ

9NEWS reporter TaRhonda Thomas was on hand to accept all three of her awards. Along with photojournalist Byron Reed, Thomas won the Television - Sports category for their story, "Sisters Tri-ing," about a fitness group that encourages women of color to take charge of their health and fitness by training for and competing in athletic events. Thomas and Reed also won the Television - Feature: Short Term category for "A Moment in History," a piece chronicling the effort of local sculptor Ed Dwight to recreate in bronze the Inauguration of President Barack Obama.

9NEWS Vice President and News Director Patti Dennis said, "TaRhonda Thomas and Byron Reed are so passionate about reporting great stories. They bring an attitude of excellence to every story they touch. They add a sense of community in their reporting and we are thrilled to see both honored by the National Association of Black Journalists."

Thomas also won the Television - Specialty category with photojournalist Ken Mostek for their story called "Quitting with Kaleidoscope" about a program to help local activists in the African American community quit smoking through volunteer activities.
