DENVER -The Colorado Rockies, 9NEWS and Steve Spangler Science are teaming up to launch the first Weather & Science Day at Coors Field on May 7, 2009. Join Steve Spangler and 9NEWS Chief Meteorologist Kathy Sabine for some large-scale science experiments and hands-on activities illustrating the science of weather and the properties of air.
There will be an opportunity to help set a new record for participating in the world's largest physics lesson. A representative from Guinness World Records will be on hand to certify the event and hopefully award a new Guinness World Record.
The event begins at 10:30 a.m. with Kathy Sabine and Steve Spangler taking the stage at Coors Field. Sabine will share some weather forecasting expertise and teach the science behind our most extreme weather in Colorado.
"I'm really excited whenever I get the opportunity to get kids fired up about science," said Kathy Sabine. "You never really know what's going to happen with Steve. He's always full of surprises - that's why this event is going to be so much fun!"
Steve Spangler has been sharing his passion for making science fun with Colorado students and teachers in classrooms and on television for twenty years. Steve and Kathy worked together to write the weather and science curriculum that will be covered during the presentation, which promises some highly visual experiments and demonstrations.
"Every big science show deserves a few erupting concoctions and some really cool kabooms," said Steve as he filled a large trashcan with liquid nitrogen. "Every person in the audience will get to participate in a hands-on science activity right at their own seat." Sky9, the 9NEWS helicopter, will fly over to provide an aerial view to help the Guinness World Record adjudicator verify the record attempt.
Over 7,000 teachers, parents and students from schools throughout Colorado have already signed up to be a part of the first annual Weather & Science Day at Coors Field. Admission is $7 for upper level tickets and $14 for lower and mid-level tickets.
