Denver, CO– The theme of this year's Heartland Chapter Emmy Awards was Casino Royale, so it only seems fitting that 9NEWS would win 21 Emmys, more than any other television station. For the 3rd year in a row, 9NEWS also was honored with the biggest award of the evening, the Emmy for Station Excellence. Plus, the station received the Emmy for best Team Coverage, for its coverage of the school shooting at Platte Canyon High School.
Mark Koebrich was named Best News Anchor this year and 9NEWS Meteorologist Marty Coniglio took home the Emmy for Best Weather Anchor. 9NEWS was also honored for its sports special "Colorful Colorado: Xtreme," a program that used high definition photography to capture some of the more adventurous sports in the state.
During the evening the former 9NEWS Engineering Chief, Don Perez, was also inducted into the Heartland Chapter's Silver Circle.
