Denver, COToday the Heartland Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for the 2008 Emmy Awards and 9NEWS received 67; more than any other station in our region. KUSA was nominated for Station of Excellence, Morning Newscast, Afternoon Newscast, Breaking News coverage, Spot News, Best Anchor, Best Weather Anchor, and Best Sportscast.

The 9NEWS staff was nominated for an Emmy in the Breaking News category for its coverage of the religious shootings at the Youth With A Mission in Arvada and New Life Church in Colorado Springs. 9NEWS 6AM and 8AM were nominated for Morning Newscast, while Four O'clock @ 9NEWS received two nominations in the Afternoon Newscast category. 9NEWS Anchors Bob Kendrick and Mark Koebrich received nominations for Best Anchor, Marty Coniglio for Weather Anchor, and Susie Wargin for Sportscast. 9NEWS Reporter Chris Vanderveen received 9 nominations for his work in several categories, including three for his feature reporting.

In addition to the many Emmy winners to be honored on Saturday July 19th at the Heartland Chapter Regional Awards ceremony, 9NEWS Anchor Ward Lucas will also be inducted into the Chapter's Silver Circle. The honor recognizes contributions Lucas has made to the broadcasting industry and community during his three decades on television here in Denver.
