Select a long, low bowl of some sort. Centerpieces need to stay low so your guests can see each other. Fill the bowl with whatever fruit you have on hand such as apples, oranges, lemons and limes. You may also wish to use gourds and miniature pumpkins. Add water to within an inch of the lip of the bowl.
"Behead" the flowers, leaving just a few inches of their stems. Insert the flowers in the spaces between the fruit. It actually doesn't take very many flowers; the fruit provides the background colors. The arrangement will be a feast for the eyes.
You can also use this idea for an arrangement on a mantle or buffet table, and even make a miniature version for the kid's table.
You can do this a day or two in advance. If the fruit is only in water for a day or two it can be dried off and eaten after Thanksgiving--when you start your diet.
