Trevor Materasso with the Westminster Police Department says the pond was partially drained but The police chief stopped the process before it was completed due to a misunderstanding in an earlier planning meeting.
Crews will continue to search the pond using sonar technology.
Luke Edwards was last seen at the Westin Hotel early Sunday morning. Coworkers say the 36-year-old appeared intoxicated when he left the party.
Divers searched a 16-foot deep pond in front of the hotel Wednesday morning but found no signs of Edwards. Crews will continue to search the pond using sonar technology.
Police are also reviewing security tapes.
Monday morning, Edwards' girlfriend Jamie Jue started calling his parents when she was couldn't get a hold of him, Edwards' father, Duane Fisher said.
Temperatures Sunday morning were dangerously cold. Edwards never returned home and did not show up for work on Monday. Police found his truck still in the hotel parking lot on Tuesday.
Fisher said the last cellphone signal from his son came around 10 p.m. Saturday. He also did not have a jacket on when he may have walked outside the hotel.
"All of his clothes that he brought with him were still in his hotel room," Fisher said. "His keys to his truck, everything was still in the room. The bed was never even messed up; he had never even gone to the bedroom really."
Edwards has two children, 5 and 3, from a previous relationship in Seattle. His family said he had been working with Frederick-based Mark Young Construction for a couple of years. The company paid for the Christmas party, and rooms to stay afterward, Fisher said. The party also had an open bar, he said.
Edwards is described as a 190-pound man, 6-feet-1 inches tall, with brown hair and hazel eyes.
Police are asking anyone with information about Edwards' whereabouts to please call Westminster Police at 303-658-4360.
