ARAPAHOE COUNTY - The woman exposed by 9Wants to Know investigators for running a questionable real-estate business pleaded guilty to a lesser charge this week than she originally faced.
Jennifer Allen pleaded guilty to "failure pay over assign account - less $1000," which is a misdemeanor. She was given a deferred sentence of two years.
That means if she does not face additional legal trouble, she won't likely have to serve time behind bars.
She had faced two counts of theft over $20,000, but those counts were dismissed at the request of the district attorney.
The allegation stems from former Mile High Management customers who say the company, run by Kevin Allen, Jennifer's then-husband, took rent money from tenants and didn't pay homeowners their money on time or did not pay at all.
9Wants to Know went undercover in 2009 and aired an investigation exposing Allen's business practices.
Court records show the district attorney's office investigated the Allens from 2009 until mid-2012.
An arrest warrant named more than 20 people who investigators believe were taken by the Allens.
Jennifer Allen's former husband pleaded guilty for his part in the business May 28.
Kevin Allen is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 5 at 2:30 p.m. before Judge John L. Wheeler in Arapahoe County on two counts of theft - $20,000 or more.
