Now, in the new book/second installment of the Culper Ring Trilogy, The Fifth Assassin, #1 New York Times bestselling author Brad Meltzer poses the fictional question about whether a fifth present-day assassin is meticulously recreating the crimes of John Wilkes Booth, Charles Guiteau, Leon Czolgosz, and Lee Harvey Oswald.
Meltzer has quite the track record as a nationally bestselling novelist, but as with many of his novels, the story of The Fifth Assassin grew out of a tremendous amount of historical research.
Just as he does on his highly rated show on The History Channel, "Decoded," Meltzer conducted an in-depth investigation on the four successful presidential assassins themselves.
Meltzer says the commonalities discovered between these four assassin are intriguing and often unexpected. For example, most of the assassins did not drink, none of them did drugs, all of them were surprisingly and excessively neat, and none of them, except for that moment when they pulled the trigger, was ever identified as a troublemaker.
