The Gutter Pump

Chris Carter, who is an engineer, came up with the idea of the Gutter Pump. He says he wanted an inexpensive, but effective solution to clogged downspouts. The trick was to design a gutter insert that would allow rainwater and snowmelt to pass through debris without plugging up the opening.

His design filters leaves and debris in one location; the water and snowmelt, from another.

Carter made the Gutter Pump in hopes that sales would help out his father-in-law who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and became unable to pay his bills. Chris bought a do-it-yourself patent book and did the patenting and marketing of his gadget all by himself. The product is doing very well. You can learn more by visiting
