THORNTON - Officers believe a driver who hit three people on Saturday, killing two and sending one to the hospital, might have been distracted before the crash.
TAKE THE GREAT HANG UP PLEDGE
Thornton Police Department spokesperson Matt Barnes says three people - two adults and a teen - were walking east along the shoulder in the 3500 block of 168th Avenue around 1:45 p.m. Saturday when a Toyota pick-up veered off the right side of the road, hitting the people.
Two adult men died at the scene, Barnes says, and a male teen was airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition.
Their names have not been released.
Barnes says the driver, 33-year-old Michael James Grennan, has been taken into custody for investigation of careless driving involving death. Barnes says the preliminary investigations indicate Grennan may have been distracted by a cellphone. They do not suspect speed, alcohol or drugs to be factors in the crash.
