DENVER- Recently Denver Broncos Quarterback Jay Cutler became one of 23.6 million Americans living with diabetes. This October thousands of Coloradans will unite to make a difference by Stepping Out to Fight Diabetes on Saturday October 25th.
The walk will begin at Denver's Downtown Aquarium and follow the Platte River and Cherry Creek trails.
A healthy diet and exercise (like walking) are important in preventing diabetes, and that's why Step Out to Fight Diabetes is the perfect way to join the cause.
Each participant is asked to make a donation to the American Diabetes Association. The money raised will help increase education and research. Both are important tools in fighting the disease.
When someone has diabetes their body does not produce or properly utilize insulin. Insulin is the hormone needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into the energy necessary for daily activities. Often, diabetes can and does lead to various other health complications.
The American Diabetes Association is the nation's leading nonprofit health organization providing diabetes support, research, information and advocacy. The ADA encourages all participants to remember their motto "Cure, Care, Commitment"
