KUSA - Table Mountain Animal Shelter in Jefferson County told 9NEWS they are getting lots of calls about lost pets after Monday's storm.
Most pet owners report their pets missing because the storm blew down their fences.
You can post of a photo of your missing pet at www.tablemountainanimals.org, click on the "Reunite" button.
Denver Animal Control and the Dumb Friends League have not seen an increase in lost pet calls, or strays brought to their shelters.
If you want to help a lost dog, don't chase it. The Dumb Friends League says that will scare the animal more, and it might bite if you catch it. They recommend calling animal control. More information about lost and found animals is available at http://www.ddfl.org/inlost.htm and http://www.ddfl.org/found.htm.
If your pet is lost, the Dumb Friends League recommends:
- Visit every shelter - pets can wander a long way from home.
- Check shelters daily. Don't assume a shelter will house your animal any longer than a few days.
- Notify friends and neighbors that your pet is lost.
- Contact veterinarians in the area.
- Read the "found" ads & take out a "lost" ad in the paper.
- Post fliers.
- Don't give up.
