KUSA - Get those gloves, hats and mufflers. Make sure the ice scraper is at the ready and the car is winterized, because winter weather is just around the corner. Governor Ritter has declared October 18 - 24 "Winter Weather Preparedness Week." It's never too early to get ready.
Who can forget the blizzard conditions we experienced late last March when Denver got nearly a foot of snow. But that's Colorado, and most natives know they have to be prepared.
The Colorado Division of Emergency Management recommends assembling an emergency supplies kit for both the home and car. According to the Division's Web site, it's called the "72-hour emergency kit." Supplies should be assembled to meet the basic survival needs of the family for three days to a week.
Items such as a first aid kit, flashlight, water storage and candles, to name a few, should be included. For a detailed list of items and how to put them together for the home and car, click here.
