DENVER - They woke up in the wee hours of the morning to line up for a prime tailgate spot at Invesco Field at Mile High. Just before 6 p.m., they were headed east to Coors Field for round two.

Mind you, this 20-hour day was not an uncommon one, and it certainly wasn't for the fair weather fan. Temperatures were in the twenties and thirties throughout a pivotal day for the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies, as well as their fans.

"It will be a long day after the end of the Rockies game," said John Etchingham, who was visiting Denver from Rhode Island and rooting for the Patriots earlier in the day. Etchingham will later root for the Rockies when chapter two begins later in the evening.

Fans with a half dozen layers appeared to fare better through the frigid temperatures and light breeze, which warmed up as the sun peaked Sunday afternoon. The warm tailgate food didn't hurt the "keeping warm" cause, either.

"We're grilling some meat up, some Patriot burgers with lobster in them, and we're going to pick up our 1 year old and he's going to weather the storm tonight," said another fan, who was rooting for the Broncos. "We're all from Alaska, so this is nothing. This is like summer back home."

For fans with tickets to both games, Sunday was an unexpected double dip of sporting events only made possible by Saturday's delayed Game 3 of the NLDS at Coors Field. The game was delayed Saturday after significant morning snowfall and temperatures in the teens throughout the afternoon and evening.

"I've got to leave at 8 a.m. for a business trip tomorrow, so it'll be an interesting 24 hours," said Tom Harrington, who was celebrating his 26th birthday. "But how can you not enjoy this if you have the ability to? How rare is it that you get two games like this in one day? I love it."

While the double dip wasn't expected, not one person we talked to complained it, which probably had something to do with the lack of conflict with the Broncos game after the sudden rescheduling of the Rockies game.

"We could handle this every weekend of every year," he said. "But this is definitely a special day in that we can have these two games of this importance in one day. It's so awesome. We'll win them both! Go Broncos, Go Rockies!"
