Kelly Blue Book (KBB) is a guide for consumers looking for information about vehicles they're interested in buying.
KBB representative Jack Nerad talked about some of the vehicles that retain the most value.
"We took a look at a five year typical ownership period and I cannot only tell you, I can also show you the 'brand award winner' was Toyota represented here by the beautiful Toyota Avalon and Lexus. The Lexus GS is also the award winner in our best resale value awards [and] the 'best luxury brand', so they did a remarkable job in retaining value. Obviously with both Lexus and Toyota [have] done a remarkable job in satisfying customers and being reliable transportation that people want to buy," Nerad said.
Nerad also talked about the driving experiences for some of the vehicles.
"On the domestic front, the Chevy Volt was the winner in our 'electric car' category. It is one of the most highly technological cars on the market. [It is] just a terrific car in so many ways, a great car to drive. I don't know if people understand how revolutionary the driving experience is in the Chevy Volt. It is just very quiet and smooth as silk to drive. So real cool technology as well. Obviously wonderful, wonderful fuel economy from a vehicle that is most often operating as an electric vehicle. So we at Kelley Blue Book look at resale value as very important," Nerad said.
Nerad explained the significance of looking beyond the sticker price when choosing a vehicle.
"It is really not a good thing to do all because your real cost is what you paid for the car initially, minus what you're going to get for the car when you trade it in or sell it and that's resale value and it's important to track. We at Kelley Blue Book do that we think as well as anybody," Nerad said.
