A survey from Career Builder showed 36 percent of companies planned to hire contract workers in 2012, up from 28 percent in 2009.

Mom Corps Denver is a staffing firm that connects businesses to a pool of professionals looking for flexible work. Many jobs are in fields such as finance, marketing, HR, legal and strategy. They are taking advantage of this trend to create workplace solutions to benefit employees and employers.

They offer flexible careers in a variety of positions including full-time, temporary and seasonal.

"We talk about flexibility in terms of time, duration and place," Lauren Sveen with Mom Corps Denver said. "So it's not just a part-time job. It can be a virtual job, one day a week or a full-time virtual job. It can be a job that has a shorter commute or a job that doesn't require travel. People want lots of different ways to be flexible and synthesize the work in their life."

Mom Corps Denver is not just for women. Sveen says a growing number of men are looking for a similar, flexible balance in their lives.

"Employers are starting to understand that flexibility is a currency, and it's gone beyond being a benefit," Sveen said. "Sixty percent of working adults now say that flexibility is the most important they look for in getting a new job and even college graduates. Half of college graduates say they want a job with flexibility."
