The hiring center is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Applicants can stop by the center during those hours or apply online at http://careers.walmart.com.
Most employees will begin work in March to get the store ready to open. The grand opening is tentatively set for April 10.
Store manager Jeff Plumb said workers are needed to fill all jobs, including supervisory positions.
"Walmart provides good jobs with opportunities for career growth, and we look forward to talking with candidates who are interested in joining our store's team," Plumb said in a statement.
Walmart announced in August it planned to reopen the Mason Street store that closed more than five years ago. The discount giant is expanding and remodeling the store into a Supercenter at the busy Harmony Road and College Avenue intersection.
Walmart plans to bring "one-stop shopping" including groceries to the site, which closed in September 2007 when a new Loveland location opened on U.S. Highway 287.
Heath Construction of Fort Collins has been hired as general contractor and is just starting construction on the roughly yearlong project.
When the new Walmart Supercenter opens at 4625 S. Mason St., it will be about 13,100 square feet larger than the previous store but still about half the size of a standard 200,000-square-foot supercenter.
Walmart has declined to say how much the renovation and expansion is costing, but the building permit application estimates the value of the work at $5.5 million.
Walmart does not disclose the sales tax revenue generated by its locations, but the Timnath Walmart that opened in 2010 generated nearly $1 million in sales tax revenue in its first year.
One million dollars represents about 1 percent of Fort Collins' annual sales tax collections.
Walmart has three Supercenters within a few miles of Mason Street, including the U.S. 287 store in Loveland, one at Harmony Road and Interstate 25 in Timnath and its Magnolia location in Fort Collins.
