KUSA – With the recent heavy snowfall, many are wondering if we are on our way to a record-setting snow season.

According to the official measurements from the National Weather Service, Denver has had 59.5 inches of snowfall as of January 29 at the Stapleton site in northeast Denver.

The average for an entire season is 61.7 inches of snow. Even though there has been quite a bit of snow so far this year, we have a long way to go to reach the record for a single snow season.

During the snowfall season of 1908-09 Denver's Union Station recorded 118.7 inches of snow.

In fact, just to make the top 15 snowiest seasons we'll need a total of at least 80.7 inches this year. And that's just to get into 15th place.

Average snowfall for the coming months (based on 1971-2000 data):

- February 6.3"
- March 11.7"
- April 9.1"
- May 1.3"

If we get this average snowfall we would end up with 86.4", good enough for 8th place on the all-time list.
