Denver Police Department Public Information Officer Sonny Jackson said thanks to a tip they found a 2002 Buick Rendezvous not far from the accident in Southeast Denver around midnight.

Jackson said they do not have a suspect in the case, and that they working to identify the driver involved.

The victim was identified as Zewde Ali, 61.

It happened at 6:07 p.m. on the eastbound lanes of Parker Road, just west of East Mississippi Avenue.

Police believe a driver attempted to bypass a line of cars stuck in rush-hour traffic by moving into the center turn lane at high rate of speed, striking Ali as she crossed south to north. Police say she may been coming from a bus stop.

There were several pieces of the vehicle at the scene.

"We will go about the business of collecting every broken piece of the vehicle that was left at the scene," Denver Police Lt. Robert Rock said. "Our forensic scientists at our crime lab are able to piece the debris back together."

That section of Parker Road was closed for several hours while police gathered evidence.
