DENVER (DP) - Dan Hawkins will be hired as the head coach of the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League, the Montreal Gazette is reporting, citing two sources.

Hawkins last coached at Colorado from 2006-2010. Despite his skidding as Buffaloes coach, he has a career college record of 112-61-1 including time at Boise State.

The 52-year-old Hawkins was one of six finalists for the Montreal job, according to Alouettes GM Jim Popp. The others included former Colorado State coach Steve Fairchild and former NFL coach Jim Zorn (Washington head coach, Kansas City QBs coach), among others.

Hawkins was 1-1 against Fairchild when they were coaching against each other at CU and CSU. Maybe Hawkins' beating out Fairchild for the Als job is a tiebreaker.

Former Alouettes coach Marc Trestman left Montreal in January to become head coach for the Chicago Bears.
