The original demonstration used a hard-boiled egg and a milk bottle.
Mon, 18 Aug 2008 00:09:54 -0600Science and the Olympicshttp://www.stevespanglerscience.com/experiment/00000037http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/experiment/00000037Read Experiment and Watch the Video
I can't help but be amazed by the high-tech science that we're seeing at this year's Summer Olympics. The name of the game in so many of the sports is to reduce any opposing resistance. In some instances, the athlete can actually use other competitors to block the wind (drafting in cycling). What does any of this have to do with floating beach balls and flying toilet paper? That fast-moving air flowing around the object creates an area of lower pressure and gives the athlete an advantage. Thanks Bernoulli.
Mon, 11 Aug 2008 10:35:26 -0600Glowing Germs and Microbeshttp://www.stevespanglerscience.com/experiment/glo-germ-and-giantmicrobeshttp://www.stevespanglerscience.com/experiment/glo-germ-and-giantmicrobesRead Experiment and Watch the Video
Whether we like to believe it or not we live in a world filled with germs, bacteria, viruses and other creepy crawly things. It is hard to teach kids about germs when you can't see them. But, what if kids could play with giant germs or could even see simulated germs on their hands and anything they touch?
Mon, 11 Aug 2008 09:17:20 -0600UV Beads Change Color in Sunlighthttp://www.stevespanglerscience.com/experiment/00000118http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/experiment/00000118Read Experiment and Watch the Video
Don't use your skin as detector of ultra-violet light (UV), try experimenting with Energy Beads or UV Beads. These indicator beads change color when exposed to UV light. You can't blame this one on drought, but instead a tiny little black beetle living just under the bark. According to Colorado State forestry officials, an estimated 750,000 acres of trees have been killed by the Mountain Pine Beetle' -- and this is just the beginning.
Mon, 28 Jul 2008 23:45:29 -0600Science in the Rockies 08http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/dont-try-this-at-home.htmlhttp://www.stevespanglerscience.com/dont-try-this-at-home.htmlRead Experiment and Watch the Video
What happens when you put 150 teachers from 23 states and three countries in the same room for three days with a team of instructors who are over-the-top excited about teaching science? Enthusiasm for making science fun spreads like a virus. Concerns about test scores, curriculum changes or the ever-changing pressures of being a teacher seem to vanish. For three days, these teachers put their worries aside and focus on ways to bring wonder, discovery and exploration back into their classrooms. Here's a glimpse at what happened at Science in the Rockies this year...
Tue, 15 Jul 2008 11:11:00 -0600Smash! Boom!
