DENVER - Angels and butterflies will delight and inspire visitors to Gaylord Street in Denver.

Both are featured in original works of art by Colorado artists.

Arts of Denver is hosting the show "One Hundred Angels" as a fundraiser for The Butterfly Program, sponsored by Porter Hospice and The Children's Hospital.

This program serves families with children who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness. The Butterfly Program offers pediatric palliative care, at home or in the hospital.

The art show helps celebrate 10 years of these services in the metro area. The artists and Arts at Denver are donating a percentage of sales to The Butterfly Program.

Artists were asked to share work that was inspired by angels or butterflies. One piece is called "Paper Angel" and the quote across the bottom reads: "Beauty Saves the World."

The paper angel symbolizes the fragility and temporary nature of our lives here on earth.

A butterfly pendant was also designed as a permanent fundraiser for The Butterfly Program. It is named "Ariel." Ariel has been called an angel of healing. The Hebrew name "Ariel" means "Lion of God."

The goal is to design a new butterfly pendant every year, using angel names, beginning with the letter "A." The pendant is for sale in silver ($50) and silver with blue sapphires ($165).

The opening reception is Friday, Nov. 6 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Arts at Denver, 1025 S. Gaylord. The show continues through Nov. 21. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Almost all of the paintings and the pendant can be found online at www.ArtsatDenver.com.
