Zazi checks into a hotel suite in Aurora. The suite included a stove.

Zazi checks into the same Aurora hotel suite. BFI testing for explosives and chemical reside in the suite revealed the presence of acetone residue in the vent above the stove. Zazi remained checked into the hotel through Sept. 7.

FBI searches Najibullah Zazi's rental car near the Queens residence. FBI finds a laptop computer containing the jpeg image of the pages of handwritten notes on how to make explosives. Rental car paperwork in car said Zazi was supposed to return rental car on Sept. 14, 2009 in New York. Also found in the residence was an electronic weight scale in the closet along with batteries. Both items contained Zazi's fingerprints.

FBI Agents execute a search warrant on a residence in Queens. FBI seizes a black scale containing several double-A batteries. Zazi's fingerprints are found on both the scale and the batteries.

Najibullah Zazi volunteers to be interviewed by the FBI and members of the Joint Terrorism Task Force at the FBI headquarters in Denver, CO. Zazi tells the FBI he had never seen the handwritten notes that were found on his computer, traced back to the December 2008 e-mails, and did not write the notes. Zazi also agrees to submit handwriting, DNA and fingerprint samples. More...
Zazi's submitted handwriting samples show commonalities between handwriting on the documents found in his computer, but a final conclusion was not yet reached, pending expert analysis, according to a federal arrest affidavit.
