INVESTIGATION TIMELINE DENVER - Mohammed Wali Zazi, 53, father of suspected terrorist Najibullah Zazi, was released from custody at around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, despite the fact he still faces charges of lying to the government.
The elder Zazi was being processed was released to a home confinement situation until a home monitoring system can be set up at his new place of residence.
Mohammed Zazi's new residence was not disclosed. It was the second residence chosen on Thursday. Officials say the wife of the man who had offered to house Mohammed Zazi objected at the last minute out of a fear. An afternoon status hearing was held Thursday in court where it was determined that a new residence had been secured. Furthermore, the judge made sure officials had cleared the housing of the elder Zazi by all residents of the location.
On Wednesday, 9Wants to Know confirmed the Zazi's month-to-month lease is being terminated at the Arapahoe County apartment where both were arrested on Sept. 19. A notice had been posted on their door saying they had to move out by Oct. 3.
Since the home monitoring system will not be set up by Thursday, the judge ruled that the government can visit Zazi at his new home, when it is determined, whenever they deem it appropriate. Zazi was also told he must physically appear at pre-trial services this Friday and next Monday.
Mohammed Zazi's new location will not be release because officials are concerned for his safety.
Also Thursday, the government set a date for the elder Zazi's preliminary hearing. That hearing will happen on Oct. 9, at 1:30 p.m. Mohammed Zazi's case, where he was charged with knowingly and willfully making false statements to the FBI in a matter involving international and domestic terrorism, will remain in Denver's federal court system despite the fact his son now faces terrorism charges in New York.
A detention hearing on the younger Zazi will be held on Friday. Experts tell 9NEWS he will likely be moved to New York City where he will face the new charges against him. A grand jury in New York indicted the younger Zazi of conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction on Wednesday.
