TERROR PLOT SPECIAL SECTIONNEW YORK - The father of a terror suspect was supposed to be in court in Colorado on Monday, but hours before Mohammed Zazi was set to appear on a charge of lying about domestic terrorism, the federal court cancelled the hearing.
9Wants to Know learned the hearing was cancelled because the elder Zazi's home monitoring system had been set up, and he was being held under house arrest, so there was no longer a reason for the hearing. He's due back in court on Oct. 9 on one count of making false statements about a terrorism investigation.
Zazi's son, Najibullah, will appear in court in Tuesday in New York on a much more serious charge.
9Wants to Know learned Najibullah Zazi will be defended by his co-counsel, Colorado attorney J. Michael Dowling, who has a license to practice in New York.
Zazi will be arraigned at 9 a.m. Mountain Time on one count of conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction, or a bomb.
Meanwhile, 9Wants to Know has learned the FBI is continuing its searches of beauty supply stores nationwide to learn where and when Zazi allegedly bought the chemicals to make homemade bombs.
The actual receipts from a beauty supply warehouse in Aurora show Zazi paid cash for six liquid developers, rollers and hairpins in July.
In August, he bought another 12 liquid developers, used in perms, which contain high levels of hydrogen peroxide, along with a girl's carrying case. In total, he spent about $75.
In the indictment, FBI agents claim he took the chemicals, and others, to a hotel in Aurora to practice mixing explosives.
9Wants to Know has also obtained an FBI alert that is still going out to beauty supply stores nationwide, telling stores to be on the lookout for anyone who can't explain their reasons for purchasing the chemicals or who seems preoccupied with the concentration levels of acetone.
Meanwhile, in New York, the Associated Press reports a law enforcement official confirmed on Monday that investigators have identified three of Zazi's possible accomplices.
Court papers allege that at least three people helped Zazi buy the beauty products which contain peroxide and acetone in suburban Denver. The chemicals can be used to make homemade bombs.
The official told The Associated Press on Monday that investigators know the identities of the three people, who are from New York City. He spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation continues.
The official would not say anything about the whereabouts of the possible accomplices or the bomb-making materials.
