TERROR PLOT SPECIAL SECTIONDENVER - The father of a man accused of plotting to make a chemical explosive device to apparently use in a terrorist plot in New York pleaded not guilty Friday afternoon to a charge of lying to federal investigators in a matter involving international and domestic terrorism.

Mohammed "Wali" Zazi, 53, was indicted on Thursday. After entering his not guilty plea Mohammed Zazi remained free on his previously posted $50,000 bond.
Mohammed Zazi and his 24-year-old son, Najibullah Zazi, were arrested on Sept. 19.
They were both initially charged with making false statements to federal investigators in a matter involving terrorism. That charge was eventually dropped against Najibullah Zazi so he could be taken to New York to face the more serious terrorism charge.
Mohammed Zazi was indicted because the U.S. Attorney's office says he allegedly denied he talked to anyone by telephone over whether Najibullah Zazi was in any trouble, when he did talk in fact, on or about September 11, 2009, he did speak by phone with someone regarding whether Najibullah Zazi was in any trouble.
If convicted, Mohammed Zazi could get up to eight years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine, or both.
Najibullah Zazi is still in custody in New York.
