RIO GRANDE COUNTY - A 14-year-old is expected to face charges for the killings of his mother and step-father at their home in the San Luis Valley.
Rio Grande Sheriff Brian Norton said 38-year-old Tracy Aaron Rinebarger and his wife, 33-year-old Joanna Marlee Rinebarger, were found dead inside their home in the 3200 block of County Road 28 near Monte Vista.
Authorities say an adult family member found the bodies at 2 p.m. on Tuesday and called 911.
A 14-year-old, the son of Joanna Rinebarger and the step-son of Tracy Rineberger, was identified as a possible suspect and arrested at 4 p.m. in Park County.
He was interviewed by CBI agents and is being held at a juvenile detention facility pending a hearing on Friday.
Norton says formal charges will be filed by the Rio Grande County district attorney at a later date.
Norton would not say how the Rinebargers were killed. Autopsies will be performed later this week.
He said deputies have not been called to the home for any unusual events in the past.
Joanne Rineberger's mother said her grandson is a "good kid" and she had no idea what happened.
Family and friends of the couple asked that the Rinebargers be remembered as good friends and people who were close to their extended families.
