DENVER - Eugene Martinez, 48, escaped from Denver Police custody on Wednesday at 12:18 p.m.
Police say Martinez was cuffed inside a heavily patrolled room when he escaped. Martinez had to go through at least two doors to exit the building. No officers noticed him.
"It's frustrating. It's very frustrating when you have somebody escape your custody," Denver Police spokesperson Sonny Jackson said.
Martinez is wanted for failing to register as a sexual offender.
Martinez has an extensive sexual assault history in both Pueblo and Denver dating back to 1994.
"Our most recent contact with him was an indecent exposure situation," Jackson said.
Martinez is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs about 120 pounds. He has a tattoo on his chest of a guitar with winds and the name "Diane" on it. He also has a scar on his forehead.
"He's not a very big guy, I do know that. But at the same time, we did cuff him accordingly, so how he was able to do that we don't know at this time," Jackson said.
He was last seen wearing a black, zip-up hoodie and black jeans. Martinez had blue sweatpants under his jeans.
Police say to not attempt to contact Martinez because he is considered dangerous. Instead people are to call 911 immediately.
People who know where Martinez is should call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867). Crime Stoppers collects information on unsolved crimes or individuals wanted by police.
