Police arrest suspect in Fort Morgan fatal stabbing

FORT MORGAN - Police have arrested a man of in connection to the stabbing death of a woman overnight in Fort Morgan, the city's first homicide in three years.

Fort Morgan Police Chief Keith Kuretich says 25-year-old Ahmed Abdi was taken into custody in Greeley where he lives, by officers on Wednesday morning. Abdi is charged with Murder in the Second Degree and First and Second Degree Assault. He is being held at the Morgan County Detention Center.


Fort Morgan Police originally received a 911 call about a disturbance in the 400 W. block of Kiowa Avenue at 11:36 p.m. Tuesday. When officers arrived they found the body of a woman outside of the house. Kuretich says it appears she was stabbed to death.


Wednesday morning police executed a search warrant to gather additional evidence. Kuretich says the last homicide in Fort Morgan was on October 28, 2006.
