FORT COLLINS - A South Carolina man was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly holding two state employees hostage at a weigh station on Interstate 25.

Rita Davis with the Fort Collins Police Department says Samuel Ervin Brown, 49, of Columbia, South Carolina took the people hostage at knifepoint at 9:30 p.m. at the northbound Port of Entry weigh station on I-25 in Fort Collins.

The victims were held by Brown after they had told him to park his truck until 7 a.m. following a citation.

Police arrived in minutes.

Police say Brown released the two employees shortly thereafter. Brown was taken into custody.

Police say no one was injured in the incident.

Brown is being held at the Larimer County Detention Center on two counts of first-degree kidnapping.

The Department of Revenue, which runs Colorado's weigh stations, says it can't release information on specific citations, but the department's spokesperson did say most of those told to spend the night have logged too many miles on the road.

This is the first time anything like this has happened at a Colorado weigh station, according to the Department of Revenue.
