AURORA - More than 700 veterans and their families got together on Wednesday for the city of Aurora's 15th Annual Veterans Salute.
In addition to honoring the more than 25 million U.S. veterans and active duty personnel who are alive in our country, the event also honored the memories of some of Colorado's fallen soldiers.
An Air Force veteran says events like these serve an important reminder to all Americans.
"A lot of us have not served in the military and I don't think they understand the dedication it takes to be able to put the uniform on and say, 'I'm willing to go give the ultimate sacrifice for my country. I think that tends to escape some folks," Frederick Norman, an Air Force veteran, said.
The families of three servicemen were presented with a plaque from the Colorado Freedom Memorial.
They are 2nd Lt. James Shelton Doyle, who served in WWII; Christopher "Doc" Alan Anderson, a Navy hospital corpsman who served during Operation Enduring Freedom; and Lt. j.g. Buddy Duane Pyeatt, who served during Vietnam.
