DENVER - A first for the area Wednesday: a special torch relay covering thousands of miles to raise money for children.

The Children's Miracle Network Miles for Miracles Torch Relay and 5K walk through the Denver Tech Center raised an estimated $15,000 for The Children's Hospital.

Nationwide, organizers hope to raise $1.5 million this year with similar events all over the country.

"We couldn't be any happier. This is a first-time city. We're doing 39 cities in 30 days and we added six cities this year and this city has exploded.with over 300 participants, which is a record for a first-time city," said Ron Mcanaugh, market leader with the torch relay for Children's Miracle Network.

The torch relay began in Orlando and ends back in Florida later this month.

All the money goes to Children's Miracle Network hospitals in the cities that take part.
