JEFFERSON COUNTY - Nine people face a total of 101 counts after they were indicted in an identity theft and forgery ring that authorities say operated throughout the metro area and Colorado Springs.
The Jefferson County District Attorney says methamphetamine use appears to be the motivation in this case.
Five men and four women are accused of stealing checks, Social Security cards, credit cards and other personal information from cars and mailboxes to get cash and merchandise. Most of the mailbox thefts happened in Jefferson County.
The alleged ring operated between October 2008 and February 2009.
Forged checks were used at 26 businesses or more.
A grand jury indicted the nine people for racketeering under Colorado's Organized Crime Control Act (COCCA).
The nine indicted are:

The charges filed include: identity theft, possession of a controlled substance - greater than one gram, theft series, conspiracy to commit theft of $15,000 or more, computer crime of $15,000 or more, forgery, criminal impersonation, and others.
