COLORADO SPRINGS (AP) - A Colorado Springs man serving a 264-year sentence for a violent burglary has seen his sentence slashed to 40 years.

Thirty-one-year-old Jeremy Michael Petschow got the reduced sentence after getting a new trial because of mistakes made by his original attorney. He's already served nine years.

Petschow's second trial ended in a mistrial. Petschow later took a plea deal that allowed him to maintain he was not the triggerman, but an accomplice, in the 2000 robbery in which the homeowner was shot. District Judge Theresa Cisneros on Friday imposed a pair of consecutive 20-year terms.

Petschow was originally convicted of attempted murder and 27 other crimes in a string of burglaries in the Colorado Springs area.
