The story about the first-term Republican from the Western Slope was first reported by the political website Politico Thursday.
Tipton's letter acknowledges his 22-year-old daughter was dropping his name in emails to other congressional offices, looking to drum up business for the telecommunications company Broadnet.
Tipton's letter says he doesn't believe an ethics rule was broken, but that the use of his name was "improper."
A Tipton spokesman told 9NEWS the story is a "sleazy political attack" by Democrats who are going after a young woman rather than talking about the country's problems.
