According to state troopers, Lisa Norton, 32, was driving a Ford Ranger eastbound on Nelson Road near 63rd Avenue just after 6:30 p.m., when she crossed the center line, striking a Nissan coupe traveling westbound.

The man driving the Nissan, 33-year-old Gabriel Nielsen, died on the scene. His passengers, 24-year-old Cherish Francis, and 2-year-old, were taken to Longmont United Hospital and later airlifted to Denver Health Medical Center with serious injuries.

Troopers say Norton tried to escape the scene by swimming across a lake, but was picked up by boaters and taken to the shore, where she was taken into custody by Longmont Police officers.

Right before the fatal crash, troopers say Norton was involved in another crash on Nelson Road. CSP says she did not stop at the scene of that crash. No one was injured.

CSP says she is facing a charge of felony vehicular homicide along with a hit-and-run and crash resulting in death charge.
