To celebrate its long history, Douglas County will hold a special ceremony and various events throughout the weekend.
When Douglas County was founded in 1861, land was easy to come by and horse and carriage was the preferred, and only, transportation choice. Douglas County is now the eighth most populous county in Colorado with 285,265 residents, according to the 2010 U.S. Census.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office and Parks and Open Space Mounted Patrols will ride horseback from one end of Douglas County to the other on Thursday and Friday.
A special ceremony will be held on Friday at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Indoor Arena with a free BBQ to follow.
