The Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) in conjunction with the FBI, Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Office, Scotts Bluff County Community Emergency Response Team and the Mitchell Police Department along with community volunteers continue to search for 8-year-old Kerra Wilson.
"We have a little girl who hasn't been seen since Wednesday morning," said Nebraska State Patrol Lieutenant Monica Bartling. "We are focused on finding Kerra and reuniting her with her family."
Kerra was last seen on Wednesday when she was dropped off just before 8 a.m. in the parking lot of the Mitchell elementary school by her stepfather. School officials notified Kerra's family when she was not in class. She was reported missing to law enforcement by family members shortly before 3 p.m..
A door-to-door search of the Mitchell area along with a search of rural areas near the community was conducted by law enforcement, emergency responders and community volunteers. An NSP airplane along with a trained search dog from the Scotts Bluff County CERT Team was also utilized in the search which continued into the evening hours on Wednesday. Searchers were unable to locate the missing girl.
Searchers resumed their efforts early Thursday morning both on land and from the air, covering rural Scotts Bluff County, including Mitchell and surrounding communities. A Team Adam consultant from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children has arrived in Mitchell to help in the search for Kerra.
"We are utilizing every resource available to us in our search for Kerra,"Lt. Bartling said. "We would encourage anyone who may have seen her or has any information they believe would aid in finding Kerra to please contact authorities."
Kerra Wilson is an 8-year-old, white female with brown hair (with red streaks) and blue eyes, 4 feet 2 inches tall, weighing 78 pounds. She was last seen wearing a sky blue short-sleeved shirt with white lettering, darker blue shorts and twinkle-toe shoes. She was possibly carrying a blue knapsack with "Kids Fitness & Nutrition Day" written on it in white lettering.
