The popular tourist attraction is about to receive a new $27-million makeover.
Officials with the architectural firm, Snohetta - who were also involved with the Sept. 11 Memorial and Museum - say the upgrades will "simplify" and "de-clutter" the pedestrian plaza.
If approved, the new construction plan is expected to be completed by 2014.
The renovations will be enjoyed by an average of 39.2 million people a year, according to a new survey by Travel + Leisure Magazine.
New York's Central Park ranked No. 2 - followed by Washington D.C.'s Union Station, the Las Vegas Strip and Niagara Falls.
