An eyewitness and gas station employee says he saw Hatfield's van around 1:30 p.m. Saturday when he got to work. He didn't think anything of it until an hour passed and the car was still there.

"I asked the manager. I said 'whose car is that,' and she said she didn't know," Hovhannes Muradyan said.

Muradyan says around 3:30 p.m., his co-worker decided to check the car out and found two small boys in their car seats along with the car keys, a cell phone and the woman's purse.

When Thornton police arrived, they took the two children to a local hospital and started looking for their mother. Hours later, investigators say Hatfield was found at National Jewish Hospital in Denver.

Sarah's husband, Matt Hatfield, says his wife's behavior is out of the norm. He says she would never do anything to harm her children.

"It's completely out of character, neither of us have ever used illegal drugs never been arrested," he said.

Saturday night, Sarah Hatfield was arrested and taken to the Adam's County Detention Center.

Police say she is facing child abuse charges.
