Organizers say the event will include a one hour run beginning at 4 p.m. Friday at Chautauqua Park in the western part of the city, with a memorial gathering at 6 p.m.

Organizers say the event will be minimally directed in honor of True's spirit. True -- nicknamed "Caballo Blanco" - is considered a legend and inspiration among runners and is the central character of the book, "Born to Run," which chronicles True's efforts to develop the Copper Canyon race in the Mexican state of Chihuahua.

Friends and organizers say the race is a celebration of the indigenous Tarahumara's way of life and their love of running.p
